BOHS IP402 Asbestos Surveying in Buildings

BOHS IP402 asbestos surveying in buildings qualification covers the basic (tried and tested) knowledge and skills required to locate and identify asbestos-containing materials in buildings. Asbestos survey course provides the essential knowledge to minimise the risk of exposure.

 

Asbestos survey course assesses at how to correctly take asbestos samples from buildings, what to look for, the correct surveying strategy, documentation required and tools, equipment , asbestos registers, and regulations and legislation which effects the PCBU (person conducting business undertakings).

 

DURATION

 

4 days including assessment and exams. The IP402 course will normally run over three consecutive days and include 16 hours of teaching. The teaching hours may be reduced by approximately 4 hours for more experienced candidates. 

 

In addition to the teaching time, candidates will be expected to undertake at least 4 hours independent study in their own time  

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

 

This is an ideal course for anyone who resides in the country who surveys buildings with asbestos as part of their work and does not have a recognised asbestos surveying qualification.

 

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

A basic knowledge of asbestos surveying principles. Some experience of asbestos surveying under the supervision of a competent surveyor would be beneficial.

    •    Types of asbestos and uses of asbestos in buildings;

    •    Types of asbestos surveys;

    •    Conducting safe and effective asbestos surveys;

    •    Bulk sampling;

    •    Risk assessment and managing asbestos-containing materials;

    •    Personal protection and decontamination

BY THE END OF THE COURSE, A DELEGATE SHOULD:

 

Have a clear understanding of the requirements relating to safe management of asbestos in buildings and be able to communicate appropriately with colleagues and clients.

 

Be able to describe the uses of asbestos in buildings and the public health risk these might pose and understand the principles of and requirements for asbestos surveys.

 

Understand the risk assessment and risk management strategies and their role in reducing health risks.

 

Have a detailed knowledge of the approved methods for sampling of bulk asbestos along with the situations where segregation may be required.

 

In addition, Candidates must have a good understanding of suitable PPE/RPE to be used and the methods for personal decontamination.

 

Understand how to carry out surveys to identify the presence of asbestos and its type in different locations including:

 

    •    Understanding of buildings and their structures;

    •    Surveying and sampling techniques;

    •    Safety requirements for surveying;

    •    Post survey evaluation.

 

Practical assessment is a key part of BOHS IP402 training course ,and the delegate will under supervision go out into the field and conduct a brief asbestos survey with bulk sampling.

 

This is an internationally recognized qualification is accredited by BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society).
